On behalf of the Board of Directors for Upcounty Theatre, I would like to thank all of you for your
continued support for the past 13 years. Our company’s Mission Statement is to provide opportunities
for the community of Germantown and the surrounding areas to participate in the transformative
power of live theater. We are very proud of the productions we were able to share with the
Germantown community during this time.
As has been the experience with many other theatre companies, COVID took a major toll on us. We
were unable to put together a production for two years and getting back on the stage is proving to be a
struggle. We were unable to renew our contract with BlackRock Center for the Arts for the first time in
13 years and our three proposals to the Arts Barn were not accepted. We are aware of the limited
resources and the many companies vying for the space, but it was still discouraging.
In addition to not having a venue this year, we have also been looking for new members to join our
Board of Directors. We have been lucky to have had many wonderful volunteers working with us
through the years, but as with all organizations, people move on, and we are finding it difficult to fill
open positions. We would welcome anyone who has an interest in joining our board to give us a new
perspective into future productions. You do not need any theatrical experience to join us, just a desire
to help provide intriguing, thoughtful productions to our community.
We are also looking for directors who would want to assist in bringing works to life on the stage. We
have some plays in mind that we would like to produce but are open to getting proposals as well.
Because we are facing the obstacles mentioned above, we have been seriously considering whether
Upcounty Theatre can continue. We continue to have overhead expenses, and, without a performance
venue, we are not generating any income. This is not what we had envisioned when Upcounty was
formed in 2010, but we also didn’t anticipate the pandemic and the impact it had on every aspect of our
lives.
It is our desire to continue to provide theatrical experiences for our community as well as acting
opportunities for actors in the area. We will have to make a final decision about Upcounty Theatre’s
future at our May Board of Directors meeting. If you are interested in getting more information about
the Board of Directors or know of any venue we could possibly reach out to, please feel free to contact
me at president@upcountytheatre.org.
Thank you again for your continued support.
